As part of my business, I host guided workshops where customers create and personalize skincare products for themselves. Yesterday, I arrived at the location where I hold my workshops to pick up the keys from security in order to set up. The guy at security told me he couldn’t find my booking and was unable to give me the keys. He asked for my name again, but still couldn’t find it anywhere.
I told him I had already paid for the hall, so he asked me to call my contact person. It was Saturday, and she only works Monday to Friday. The number I had for her was for office hours only, so I had no luck there. All this back and forth was cutting into my paid booking and setup time. I made an effort to stay calm because I wasn’t about to call my customers just two hours before the workshop to cancel.
He called the after-hours number, but there was no response. Then, he asked me to sit down and wait for someone to call him back. Sit down? When I’m upset, I can’t sit still—I need to stand. I calmly explained that I had run a workshop there in December and followed the same process this month. He asked me to give him 20 minutes to hear back. 20 minutes?!
Anyway, I sat down, put on “We Raise a Sound” by Nosa (my recent discovery), and called on the west wind. I told God that just as David encouraged himself in the Lord, I was doing the same. As I finished the west wind prayer, he came out and said he couldn’t give me the keys yet, but he’d let me in to set up while we waited for his boss to call him back. Later, the security guy came to check on me while I was setting up and told me it was all sorted. I just needed to give him my invoice number, and then he handed me the keys.
I’m so grateful for the glimmer I received yesterday. The workshop was fantastic, and I was even asked about the origin of my business name. Someone thought it was Māori, from a New Zealand indigenous tribe, and I took the opportunity to share my faith and explain how I got the name Tekoa from 2 Samuel. I thanked God for coming through for me.
On my drive to the workshop, I had been talking to God about how small the attendance was and how costly it was for me to run the workshop. I knew something needed to change. Praise God for always coming through and encouraging his children. A cloud as small as a man’s fist—I’m holding onto that, knowing the rain of abundance is just around the corner. 🙌🏽
