Divine Career Restoration

Written by

After a seven-year break from a marketing career to focus on family, an entrepreneur experienced restoration through an unexpected job offer she never applied for.
Seven years ago, I had just been promoted to Brand Manager at my job in marketing—a field I really loved and excelled in. But I had to leave abruptly. I had just had a baby and found myself at a crossroads with nursing, so we decided to prioritize family over work. When I submitted my resignation, my then-MD handed it back and gave me a leave of absence letter instead, asking me to return when my baby was older. But I never did, I went on to have more babies instead fulfilling Genesis 1:28.
Anyway, I picked up my other passion and went into full-time entrepreneurship, which has been going quite well. Over the years, I’d occasionally reflect on how I had unceremoniously left my marketing career and wished I had the closure of an official last day at work—complete with all the send-forth shenanigans with my colleagues. In the meantime, I took any free opportunity I could find to practice marketing because I still loved it.
A few weeks ago, a company I had been working with unofficially for a while raised the conversation about bringing me on board officially to head their marketing team. It didn’t initially register in my head, to be honest, after all, I had been working pro bono and hadn’t received an official offer yet. But the Holy Spirit kept nudging me to testify about it. Shortly after, we agreed on an official job description, with everything structured and outlined. And in my mind, I thought, “this is for real and is no longer unofficial’.
Today we signed off, and just like that, I’m starting the year with a new paying job close to home that I didn’t even have to apply for! The best part is that it’s not just a new job, it’s full-on career restoration in a field where I have experience. With a flexible schedule and a marketing team I’m excited to work with, this new position perfectly aligns with my seven-year career trajectory. It’s as if I never left. In other news—guess who’s having her first official day back in the marketing and advertising world tomorrow? …Meeee!
